Fenessa Adikoesoemo

Artbanx

16 Nov 2022

Fenessa Adikoesoemo inherited her passion for art from her father, Haryanto Adikoesoemo, who has one of the most significant collection in Indonesia, ranging from early Indonesia modern art to modern and contemporary art from around the world. With no particular style, Fenessa’s collection is constantly evolving. The collection is very personal, a deep-rooted interest that has developed into a strong relationship between herself and the artworks, artists and the stories behind the works. In particular, Fenessa admires Do Ho Suh. A work by the Korean sculptor and installation artist was Fenessa’s very first acquisition and it is still something that is very precious to her. American artist James Turrell is another artist of whom Fenessa is a fan.

As the Chairwoman of Indonesia’s first Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara, Fenessa Adikoesoemo wants to bring out the diversity of the country through art for its public. From November to April 2023, the museum is to be home to Chiharu Shiota’s exhibition ‘The Soul Trembles‘, presenting more than 100 works, including six large-scale installations. This exhibition is the largest and most comprehensive solo show by the Berlin-based Japanese artist to date, and also her first exhibition in Indonesia.
