ART SG
ART SG, the latest global art fair, is set to open in Singapore this week and is poised to become a major player in the Southeast Asian art market. The fair is organized by The Art Assembly, a partnership between experienced events organizers Sandy Angells and Tim Etchells, and renowned entrepreneur and author in the international art industry, Magnus Renfrew. The fair aims to bring together different communities from around Southeast Asia and connect them to the rest of Asia, providing a platform for showcasing the “great work being produced in the region that deserves a wider audience,” according to Renfrew.

Singapore is considered a natural nexus for Southeast Asia, with a fast-growing population, economy and cultural diversity. Southeast Asia has a population of over 650 million and is home to many of the fastest growing economies in the world. It also has an incredibly diverse array of cultural production from different countries around the region. As such, ART SG’s mission is to create an international fair that will serve the fast-growing constituencies of Southeast Asia by introducing the region’s cultural production to wider audiences.

The fair will feature works by both established and emerging artists from across Southeast Asia, as well as other parts of Asia, Australia and India. The fair’s selectivity is expected to attract audiences from different cultural backgrounds, providing them with an opportunity to discover new artists and works that they may not have otherwise been exposed to. The fair will also provide a platform for galleries to engage with new audiences and opportunities, by presenting the work of their artists to the international art community.
ART SG also aims to promote art education and research through its exhibitions, educational programs, and access to researchers and doctoral students. The fair will also be organizing visits to its storage galleries for schools and universities, thus providing a learning opportunity for art students and enthusiasts.
